Santander Holdings hires HR chief from BBVA

Santander has hired a BBVA executive to lead human resources at its U.S. holding company.

Rosilyn Houston will join Santander Holdings USA as its chief human resources officer Aug. 2. Previously, she was U.S. head of talent and culture for BBVA USA, the Houston-based subsidiary of Spain’s Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, which was recently sold to PNC Financial Services Group in Pittsburgh.

Houston succeeds William Wolf, who will retire from Santander this summer. She will report to Tim Wennes, CEO of both the U.S. holding company and its Boston-based subsidiary Santander Bank.

Rosilyn Houston is joining Santander after a 16-year stint at BBVA USA.

“I am very pleased to welcome Rosilyn to Santander, and I am confident that the wealth of experience she has in HR strategy and branding, culture development, and recruiting, developing and retaining talent in the financial services space will help us further elevate our employee experience and Santander’s employer brand,” Wennes said in a press release.

Houston joined BBVA USA in 2005 and held a number of retail and commercial banking positions at the company. She spent more than six years in her most recent role, where she was responsible for recruitment and staffing, benefits and compensation, corporate culture, diversity and inclusion, and employee engagement, among other duties.

She began her banking career as a part-time teller while attending college. Houston has twice been named one of American Banker’s Most Powerful Women in Banking, and before that she was one of American Banker’s Women to Watch.

At the U.S. unit of Spain’s Banco Santander, Houston will oversee teams and programs including learning and development, talent acquisition, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

“With tremendous opportunities for growth ahead, it’s critical that Santander has the right strategy for advancing its dynamic, ambitious, engaged and diverse workforce, while continuing to grow its rich culture,” she said in the release.
