Ashley Judd has updated fans with good news about her recovery after breaking her leg, announcing that she is walking again almost six months after the accident.

The Double Jeopardy actress shattered her leg in four places during a fall while travelling in the Democratic Republic of Congo in February. She had no pulse in her leg and spent 55 hours being transferred to a hospital where she was admitted into the intensive care unit (ICU).

However, Ashley is now on the mend and celebrated a milestone in her recovery on Sunday.

In her latest Instagram post, the actress shared photos and videos of her walking on crutches and exercising her foot while also returning to the trekking trails in the Swiss Alps.

She wrote: ‘Dear Friends, It is with reverence and quiet awe I offer this update. Today, five months and three weeks after the accident in the Congolese rainforest, I walked again, and in what fashion!

‘I hiked in the #SwissNationalPark. Stepping in, I felt in my ease, my natural garment of self, at home in my spirit.

‘My leg and foot, worked beautifully. I walked up hill on uneven surfaces for an hour confidently and came down carefully and easily. I rested in a meadow on God’s fecund earth for hours. The next day, I walked again on a high Alp in #Ticino, working hard and feeling how much I stamina I have to rebuild.

‘This is the road ahead. But I am up to the daily tasks, as I am even carrying firewood into our Alpine hut!’

Ashley, 53, went on to thank her trauma orthopedic surgeon, Dr Phil Kregor, who she credited with making a ‘very gutsy decision to decompress [her] deeply damaged peroneal nerve, alongside Drs Susan Mackinnon and Scott Levin.

The Kiss The Girls star then revealed: ‘We expected my foot – if ever – to *begin* to move in one year. In four months to the day, she went blew us all away. Now, after crying while trying to spell the ABCs with a paralyzed foot….well, you see!

‘My leg will never be the same. She is a new leg. And I love her. We are buddies. We have a come a long way and we have a fabulous life ahead.’

She added: ‘Many of you have been praying for me, and sending me notes. Thank you. I have felt you. I have especially been held by family and my partner. Peace be with you.’

Ashley previously detailed the extent of her ‘catastrophic’ injuries and said she could have lost her leg or even died. The American actress had tripped over a tree due to a faulty lamp making it difficult for her to see during an outdoor excursion.

After her bones were manipulated into a position she could be transported in, she was carried through the forest in a hammock by two locals, who then drove her for six hours out of the forest.

Ashley spent 24 hours in Kinshaha before being flown to South Africa to be rushed into intensive care.
