Caitlyn Jenner has revealed she is opposed to biological boys who are transgender competing in girls’ sports in school as she doesn’t think it is fair.

The former Olympian, 71, revealed that she believes girls’ sport in schools should be ‘protected’ and trans girls who were born male should not compete against biological girls.

She explained to TMZ: ‘This is a question of fairness. That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls sports in school.

‘It just isn’t fair and we have to protect girls sports in our schools.’

Caitlyn declined to answer when the reporter then asked her if banning trans girls from competing against biological girls would delegitimise their gender identity.

Caitlyn, who came out as transgender in 2015, is also a former Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete, winning the event in 1974.

She is currently campaigning to become governor of California to take over from Gavin Newsom and represent the state.

Currently more than 34 US states are considering legislation that would ban trans athletes from competing based on their gender identity, with five states having so far turned the bills into law.

Scientists have been doing research to see whether trans women would have an advantage due to higher testosterone levels, but studies are yet to conclude whether this is the reason they tend to perform better than their cisgender counterparts in certain events.

The research is currently ongoing and no study has yet settled on a definitive answer as to whether transgender women have an advantage over cisgender women in sports.

As Caitlyn’s political bid continues, one person who has supported her to take over the post is former governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who believes she may have a shot.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he said: ‘Anyone has a chance because the people are dissatisfied with what’s going on here in California.

‘The key thing about all of this is it doesn’t matter if it’s Caitlyn or anyone else – to have a clear vision of where you want to go, what are the kind of changes you want to make and why are you qualified to become governor.’
