Naomi Osaka Pledges to Donate Tournament Prize Winnings to Haiti Earthquake Relief

Naomi Osaka is offering to help those affected by the massive earthquake in Haiti.

On Saturday (August 14), the 23-year-old tennis star, whose dad was born in Haiti, took to Twitter to react to the devastating earthquake that rocked the island earlier that day.

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti on Saturday, killing over 300 people and injuring more than 1,800 people.

After hearing news of the earthquake, Naomi pledged to donate her potential winnings from the upcoming 2021 Western & Southern Open to the relief efforts.

“Really hurts to see all the devastation that’s going on in Haiti, and I feel like we really can’t catch a break,” Naomi tweeted. “I’m about to play a tournament this week and I’ll give all the prize money to relief efforts for Haiti. I know our ancestors blood is strong we’ll keep rising 🇭🇹❤️”

The 2021 Western & Southern Open is set to start on Monday (August 16) in Cincinnati.
