Tom Cruise was his own designated driver for his day out at Wimbledon on Saturday after stopping off to watch Ash Barty win the Wimbledon Ladies’ Final.

The actor looked pleased with himself at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club as he was flanked by actresses Hayley Atwell (the star’s rumoured girlfriend) and Pom Klementieff, who both appear in Mission Impossible 7. However it didn’t appear as though they had been offered a lift back.

He joined other A-listers at the match including Priyanka Chopra, Dame Maggie Smith and singer Katherine Jenkins.

Never one to hop on a bus or get the tram, the Top Gun star, wearing a blue three-piece suit with a white shirt and ivory-coloured tie, was spotted clambering into the driving seat of a helicopter and taking off into the air.

He took off his suit jacket just before hopping inside but kept his black face mask firmly in place.

Helicopter is Tom’s preferred mode of transport to get around as he films the latest instalment of his Mission Impossible franchise around Europe.

So far filming has taken him to places as far flung as Venice, Italy, and North York, UK.

In between completing his seventh outing as spy Ethan Hunt – which has been hampered in the past by shutdowns due to positive coronavirus tests – Tom found time to check in with the England men’s team ahead of their meeting with Italy at the Euro 2020 final, which takes place later on today.

Spilling the beans about the team’s famous fans, player Harry Kane told BBC Radio 5 Live: ‘Obviously we have had ex-players and people get in touch.

‘We actually had Tom Cruise get in touch yesterday evening, you get everyone who loves football.

‘The majority of people in the world love football, so it’s great to have all that support not just in England but across the world, so it’s been a great time for all of us.

‘We’ve enjoyed every moment of it so we’re just looking forward to hopefully finishing the job.’

Not only did Harry, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish and the squad get to have a chat to the actor, they also got a sneak preview of one of his films on Friday.

‘Yes, we were fortunate enough to have a watch of one of his films so I think he was over here in the UK and he just dialled in and FaceTimed us just to wish us the best as a group so that was nice of him,’ Harry continued.
