When Will James Harden Be Back? Injury Update, Potential Return Date

NBA futures bettors and fantasy basketball owners are surely keeping an eye on the injury to star Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden. Harden hasn’t played since April 5 against the Knicks, when he re-aggravated his right hamstring. Here we will provide an update on when will Harden be back as well as a potential return date.

When will James Harden be back, return?

The Nets announced on April 20 that Harden would be out “indefinitely” following a “set-back while conducting an on-court rehab session.”

Here is what Nets head coach Steve Nash had to say about Harden’s injury on April 20.

“We’ll rehabilitate him and get him back whenever we can. Who knows when that will be,” Nash said. “But we’ll support James and support our performance team in getting him back in best condition as possible. Hopefully that comes sooner rather than later, but there’s no guarantee.”

The Nets had just 11 regular season games remaining on their schedule as of April 26 and it is becoming increasingly likely that we won’t see Harden back until the NBA playoffs start on May 22. Given that the Nets will likely be facing the 7 or 8 seed in the first round of the Eastern Conference postseason and will be heavily favored even without “The Beard,” Brooklyn may even hold Harden out a few games in that series for precautionary measures.

Nets futures

The Nets had the third lowest NBA title odds at FanDuel Sportsbook on opening night of the 2020-21 season, behind the Lakers and Bucks. Brooklyn was +600 at the time but was +220 as of April 26. Thanks to a sterling regular season run thus far, the Nets have had the lowest title odds at most sportsbooks for weeks. Brooklyn hasn’t been able to enjoy having Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the floor together for the majority of this season thus far but the franchise has always had its eye on getting the trio fully healthy for late May. Here is a live look at the Nets’ best futures prices.

James Harden odds

Harden had been climbing NBA MVP odds boards just prior to his injury. On March 30, Harden was +550 to win the league’s most prestigious individual prize at DraftKings Sportsbook. As of April 26, he was +5000 at DK – which was tied for seventh lowest along with fellow injured superstar LeBron James. Nikola Jokic remained the favorite with -360 odds. Here are live odds for league MVP.
