Not only does this phone seem like it’s not ready for review, it also feels far too niche. Even demanding users who might like a smartphone like this will get more out of a Galaxy Ultra or the OnePlus 9 Pro. Unless you’re a rabid Qualcomm fan or need a beefy, long-lasting honker of a phone with a 144Hz screen, few people should get the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders.

Ultimately, if the few missing features on the Smartphone For Snapdragon Insiders aren’t deal breakers for you, and the prospect of a high-performance device that exploits all of the features of its leading-edge platform are appealing to you, this is one heck of a nice smartphone. It has an attractive design in our opinion, with a big, beautiful display, quality cameras, an extensive accessory bundle, and the overall user experience is great.

This Asus-made phone for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon fan club lets you tweak performance to a rare extent, but unfinished software gets in the way of appreciating everything the Snapdragon 888 can do.

The Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders does a good job of highlighting just what Qualcomm brings to the mobile segment, but I’m not sure you need to spend $1,499 on it to learn that lesson.

Hands on: At $1,499, the Qualcomm Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders won’t appeal to most shoppers. But it exhibits some features that could find their way into the top Android phones.

Qualcomm’s vision for the ideal smartphone emphasizes tech, specs, and customizable performance, but that comes at the expense of the finesse we expect from premium handsets. Brute hardware may suit a small group of performance enthusiasts but even power users will find better options elsewhere.

Camera Review: With an overall score of 133, the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is a strong contender at the top of the DXOMARK Camera ranking. It scores two points higher than the Oppo Find X3 Pro and Vivo X50 Pro+ (both 131) and three more than the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max (130). It is also capable of matching the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra’s score, despite the use of less impressive camera modules combination.

The Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is a great phone, with a full bundle of quality components – if you can accomodate to the high asking price. This phone is partly a showcase of what Qualcomm can do with Snapdragon 888 and some of its other technologies, with a particular focus on audio. There’s no lack of flagship experience here – this phone will compete with the best Android devices out there – but reasons to choose it over the top Samsung or Oppo phone are perhaps limited.
